Brief Synopsis, My Haunted Quarterlife Crisis
My Haunted Quarterlife Crisis is an 70,000 word Southern paranormal gothic that I describe as Buffy the Vampire Slayer meets Nancy Drew. My protagonist, shy and nerdy twenty-five-year-old Alice Eliot, seems doomed to repeat history.
Her alcoholic mother and recent unemployment have brought her back to her hometown and the dead-end job at the mall where she worked in high school.
But the dead-end job gets an undead twist when Alice discovers that the mall is haunted by ghosts from a 1920’s tragedy. When her only friend, the beloved mall security guard, is murdered, Alice is drawn into a paranormal mystery involving murder, revenge, and dark magic. As one murder follows another and as Alice finds herself in increasing peril, she learns that to uncover the truth, she must embrace her own latent psychic gifts and join forces with her mall coworkers and the mall’s spirits, including the ghost of her dead older sister. This mystery is spooky with lots of haunted house atmosphere and ghostly intrigue, but its light tone and the humorous interaction between the quirky characters bring a fresh feel to this novel about a quarter-life crisis.
